Area: 28 square miles

Mt. Pleasant and its villages of Sleepy Hollow and Pleasantville as well as the hamlets of Hawthorne, Pocantico Hills, Thornwood and Valhalla is located about 30 miles north of midtown Manhattan in Central Westchester. Metro North Railroad with stations in Pleasantville, Hawthorne and Valhalla offers regular service to Grand Central Terminal.
Sleepy Hollow is the best known of Mt. Pleasant's hamlets and villages having been made famous by Washington Irving's Headless Horseman. The Horseman Bridge and Philipsburg Manor are both located in Sleepy Hollow. Nearby is the Rockefeller Estate in Pocantico Hills. Visitors are increasingly drawn to Pleasantville with its growing list of restaurants, shops & boutiques. Pleasantville has been described as Westchester's "Front Porch" as its citizens enjoy their strolls along its sidewalks fronting graceful colonials and Victorian homes.

Educational Facilities
The Mount Pleasant Central School District serves the communities of Hawthorne, Thornwood, and part of North Castle. The Mount Pleasant School District is comprised of two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. The Valhalla Union Free School District also serves part of the town of Mount Pleasant and is comprised of two elementary schools, a middle school and a high school.

Recreational Facilities
There are many recreational facilities in the villages and hamlets of Mount Pleasant. The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville is a big draw for movie lovers. The Westchester campus of Pace University is located in Pleasantville and offers residents of all ages opportunities for recreation. The Graham Hills Mountain Bike Trail, in Pleasantville, offers cyclists a day of fresh air in a wooded and natural environment of the beautiful 431-acre park. The Philipsburg Manor in Sleepy Hollow is an historic site that vividly interprets aspects of the history of colonial New York, offering tours of the grounds and a site for picnicking that overlooks the Millpond.
