  Garrison

Hamlet of Garrison

Distance to NYC: 48 miles
Area: 4.98 square miles

Nestled in a setting of breathtaking scenic beauty, the historic Riverfront hamlet of Garrison on the southwestern side of Putnam County continues its historic reputation as a NYC retreat. The absolute beauty of its natural setting along the shore of the majestic Hudson River, bordered by mountain ranges and the countrified setting of winding country roads and pretty rural settings along with an incredible expanse of preserved open land, and the level of interest and participation in cultural organizations contribute to this unique location. With only 3000 households and under 10,000 population, Philipstown offers a uniquely small town experience within its 15 square miles.

Educational Facilities
The Garrison Union Free School offers kindergarten through eighth grade with an average class size of 17-23 students. The current enrollment is less than 300 students. Garrison offers all day kindergarten. High school have the option of attending the Haldane High School in Cold Spring or the O'Neil High School across the river in Highland Falls, each fostering the support of individual initiative and strong community values.

Recreational Facilities
Cultural Enrichment comes from two fine libraries; the Garrison Art Center; the Foundry School museum; Boscobel Restoration; the Philipstown Depot Theatre and the Paramount Theater. Over two dozen hiking trails including the Appalachian, the Manitoga Nature Center, two riverfront parks, two major golf clubs, two boating clubs, the historic Fall and Spring Arts Festivals, along with the Town's Recreation League add sports clinics and teenage and adult classes from kayaking to ethnic cooking, tai chi and yoga, theatre, dog obedience and Jr. Fire Academy classes.
